distracted

I rescheduled AUD because I only got through half of the Gleim book. New test date is August 31st.

I should have more than enough time to get through the last half of Gleim and do a full review (Hopefully, if I start sometime this week).

Sadly, I have not studied since rescheduling. I’ve mostly been playing Starcraft 2 and hanging out with friends before school starts or whatever.

I have to admit that SC2 has been a huge distraction. Luckily, I’m terrible at RTS games and always get destroyed on multiplayer. I’m on mission 24 out of 26, so I’ll likely be over my SC2 phase soon.

As long as I don’t play on battle.net, I should be fine for my August 31st exam date….

Easily distracted

in FAR

I continuously put off studying for FARs because I have so much time on my hands.  The note taking is tedious.  I’ve only covered one chapter (Module 7 in Wiley) since beginning my studying over 2 weeks ago.  I was able to fill 1 50 sheet legal pad with notes taken while watching the corresponding 7 hours of lectures.  I also have about 25 sheets of loose leaf paper that I used to solve MPCs and to jot down notes on certain MPCs that I had issues with.  My second legal pad has about 6 pages of concepts, definitions, equations, and lists that I do not want to forget.  I’m estimating that a normal chapter will be about 1 legal pad worth of notes and a longer, more difficult chapter will be about 2 legal pads worth of notes.

So far I am not having too many problems with learning/re-learning the material.  I only have trouble with the material when I force myself to study which is fruitless because I am inattentive and simply rushing through the material just so I can say I finished a lecture or section of MPCs.  Although, right now the material is very easy covering basic accounting theory and the financial statements.  I guess the biggest issue I have right now is taking notes.  I take CRAZY notes.  It takes me twice as long to watch lectures because I write down everything that I think is important, do not want to forget, and meticulously paraphrase the information so that I can understand the information when I go back to read it later.

My only worry now is the Simulations!  I just can’t force myself to do the Sims because I’m lazy.  They look tedious and time consuming.  I was planning on reviewing Sims the week before the test just so I could acquaint myself with the format, but several commentors on CPANet forum always say NOT to put off studying Sims till the end.  Sims can’t be that bad, right?  From the information I have gathered, Sims are as easy or difficult as the MPC with the main difference being matching question, fill in the blank, and tabs like Research and Communication.  The only specific information that I know I need to learn for Sims is how to format a Memo/letter and brush up on keywords for search using FASB databases (databases of which I won’t even have access to until I get my NTS).

Here is my horrible FAR Study Time Log.  Green shaded cells denote that I studied greater than 3 hours, light red shaded cells denote that I studied less than 3 hours, and bright red shaded cells denote that I did not study at all that day.  Also, I lowered my daily hours of studying from 4 hours to 3 hours because there were just too many red shaded cells!  I figure 3 hours of studying in one sitting is pretty solid.  It is harder for me to study for 4 straight hours because I will take several breaks to put off the studying.  Well crap, that last sentence just sounds like I’m rationalizing why studying 3 hours is more beneficial than studying 4 hours….

I’m hoping that the rest of week will be productive.  My goal for the month of October is to have more green cells than red cells!
