I don’t want your money and I’m not here to try and sell you anything on this blog.  I’m here because I genuinely want to help other candidates (and myself) pass the CPA exam.

I re-started this blog to record my CPA journey.  Sometimes I post boring things that only I would care about, but usually I try to aim for information that might be useful to others.  (Trivia: I originally started this blog way back in 2008 for a similar but different purpose, but completely forgot about it until I started studying for the CPA… you can search for my first post if you’re curious.)

I’m terrible with grammar so most of my ramblings will be poorly edited.  In the past, I would start a post and find myself putting in way too much time on formatting and structure.  In order to save time and keep myself studying, I usually try not to edit or structure my writing.  Basically, many of my posts are a blend of my thoughts and some accounting research.  I figure my blog will appeal to other CPA candidates in the form of advice, research, and light entertainment.

Anyways, my goal is to try to post useful information and links.  Whenever I post about the exam or an accounting topic, I will try to completely address all possible questions/issues from my own perspective as a CPA candidate. I try to understand, explain, and apply the most difficult accounting topics that I run into while studying. I find that writing things out helps me learn, especially if I can express my thoughts with clarity so that others can understand and pickup concepts that might have otherwise been tedious.

If I remember/get around to it, prob gonna rewrite the About section.

Here is a draft I wrote for my Formspring’s About Me section:

Ex-undergrad-bschool-douche with double major in Accounting & MIS (think blend of i-am-better-than-you-finance-douche w/ sprinkles of humble Comp-Sci-nerd). Graduated just as the shit was hitting the fan (May 2009), flushing all douchey hopes and yuppie upper-middle-class dreams with it — realigned expectations.

After 2 fantastic years of post-bac job interviewing, I am a master of handling rejection and destroying my self-image. Currently rebuilding self back up again.

Hello

I am pleased to announce the launch of a US version of our UK Accountancy Profession site which can be found at http://us.accountancyprofession.com. The site aims to bring together all the breaking news and views from across the profession by providing accountants and students with links to the news they need to read and sites such as yourselves with accountants and students to read the news you write. Accountants and students can browse the latest headlines, choose the ones that interest them and then visit the originating websites to read the full article.

There are a number of organizations represented on the site and I am writing to seek your permission to include a selection of your feeds enabling us to send traffic back to your website. There are no fees and no catches – this website has been purely developed by accountants for accountants.

To summarize

What we do

1. We allow accountants and students to see the headlines from across the profession – they chose the ones they are interested in and then visit the originating website.
2. We only take the last 10 articles from each news source.
3. We also include the first 250 characters of the story, together with a thumbnail if available, which appear when the headline is hovered over (this can be amended on a feed by feed basis).
4. We cache the feeds and update every hour – ensuring that the latest headlines always appear.

What we don’t do

1. We do not reproduce or store full articles.
2. We do not create an archive of past articles or headlines.

If you will permit a selection of your feeds to be used on our site please let us know or similarly if you would prefer not to be represented then let us know and we will remove the relevant feeds.

We are a non-commercial organization covering both the US and UK professions and are run by accountants for accountants. If you are able to mention our site to your readers it would be much appreciated. In addition if you have any suggestions for the site or have any ideas on how we may work together to enhance the service to accountants then please do not hesitate to contact me.
