1. I isolated myself and became a hermit.
I ignored everything that wasn’t related to accounting. I even started a crappy blog where I could rant about inane things that no one should bother reading.
2. I wasted too much time researching and demo’ing CPA Review courses.
I fell for just about every CPA exam course promotion thinking that the more I sampled, the more I would learn. I wish I just picked Roger from the beginning and probably would have finished AUD last summer.
3. After passing FAR and BEC, I felt burned out and slacked off for a year.
Studying is a pain. Living the life of a hermit in the labyrinths of libraries is quite awful. Eventually, one must step outside and forage for one cannot live off of vending machine cookies alone.

Did you pass the full CPA? Did you get a job?
I hope there’s a happy ending to this story.
Good luck, and I hope you keep writing.
Almost happy ending: 3 out of 4 down, still got REG to go.
Also, I got a full-time job offer, start date in November, for a national accounting firm as a staff auditor in their financial services department!
I haven’t been writing much because I’ve been living it up this summer as my FINAL summer of freedom ;)
Hi. I’m a random person who just happened to stumble on your “crappy” blog. For what it’s worth, it’s very insightful and relevant for anyone who is going through it. I can relate to the failed attempts, anti-social, and plain depressing stages of trying to pass the CPA exam. But… there is light at the end of the tunnel, right? Good luck!
Dearest Kia,
The light at the end of the tunnel is what you make of it. My best advice is to match your experience with your expectations. The CPA is not the end all, be all career-making/breaking exam I believed it to be. There is definitely more to life than accounting and work.
Have you passed?
I feel like I have alot to say about this topic, but I’m still living through it and I’m not sure what you need to hear.
Hi. What country are you from?
I am a newly passed CPA from Philippines. It’s fun to read blog about the CPA exam experience. Thank you. Keep sharing your experiences.
