The AICPA's new website: ThisWayToCPA.com

Have you seen the AICPA’s new website for accounting students and CPA candidates, thiswaytocpa.com (TWTCPA)?

I like the design, but the content and information isn’t that great (written by an outsider?).

I like the community section stuff, although the buttons and labels are confusing and/or redundant.  The forum software and profile pages are blog-like and I can’t tell the difference between groups/blogs/forum. It all seems to be the same thing?

TWTCPA is definitely geared more towards students and getting them to major in accounting.  How about a jobs website for those former college kids (now new grads)?  Back when I was in undergrad, StartHereGoPlaces.com was the only AICPA website with information about careers in accounting.  Alas, TWTCPA is prob just another way for the AICPA to collect your information and “spam” you until you sign up for their AICPA Student Membership.  Then a little later down the line (2-3 years) spam their CPE courses.

I do like the social networking aspect of TWTCPA.  The community section allows you to setup a personal profile and if you use your real info, you could probably get your name to turnup in a Google search.  Brand-Yourself.com offers the same thing for $10/month.  So I guess that’s cool.

P.S. Check out AccountingToday’s 100 Most Influential People of 2010.  They mention Caleb Newquist of GoingConcern.com and Francine McKenna of RetheAuditiors!  Other then Barrack Obama, those 2 are the only names on the list that I recognized (TLDR) immediately.
