July 2010

I had written a long post expressing my thoughts on Yaeger’s Mid-year Update on my phone, but forgot to post it so it got deleted.  So here’s a quick summary of that lost post:

$5, HAH.  What a joke, Yaeger’s crappy update videos used to be and should still be free.  Every CPA review company out there offers free updates/corrections for the year published, but not Yaeger.

If it’s the same quality as their previous updates, then NO THANKS.  Their past updates are mostly unorganized and a big fat waste of time because it pretty much reiterates things previously said on the HS videos.  They do these updates because preying on the fears of stressed and worried candidates has high profit margins, especially since their already hooked-in and can easily spam their email.

You could easily rationalize this purchase because $5 isn’t much seeing as you’ve already spent hundreds or over a thousand on Yaeger HS, but I ask you to think again.  They used to give these videos away for free (and would almost never announce the updates via email list).  I had FAR HS 2009 and watched the 2010 update.  It was a huge waste of time.  They basically speed through all the modules as quickly as possible.  Rarely is any new information introduced that hasn’t already been stated in the HS videos.  You’ll probably get a 2hour long video of Phil looking through the Wiley book saying something like this for each module, “do practice questions 1,2,3,4…..[long pause while paging through book]….. actual just do all the practice questions after the module……………[longer pause]………….. yeah, do all the questions for this module…………………….[longest pause]……………….. yeah don’t be lazy do them all for this module because it’s good practice.”

I’m saying no thanks to Yaeger’s generous offer because I shouldn’t need the update to pass.  If your Homestudy videos are as good as you say, why the fuck do I need to pay more money 6 months later?  Assholes….

Yaeger = Assholes, not you dear reader ;)

NTS

in AUD

I called NASBA today to ask why I hadn’t received my NTS since paying online by credit card over a week ago. I was quite annoyed and pissed off to find that most of the Prometric test dates have been filled up.

If the NASBA rep hadn’t been so polite and cool about my whole NTS screwover, I’d probably be on here cursing NASBA.

apparently, they sent me an email with my NTS attached on 6/29, but i never receives it. I’m positive their system had a bad case of the email hiccups because I ain’t no newb when it comes to spam filters. Something as important as my NTS gets priority access to my personal email address that has no spam filtering because I only give it out to friends and banks/credit cards. Alas, the rep was so courteous over the phone even though he used the old spam filters excuse. He resent the email for me and told me that i would get it within 24 hours.

I got the email about 10 mins after hanging up.

When I schedule REG, I’ll be sure to call NASBA if I don’t receive my NTS w/in an hour.

Now should I rush studying AUD in a week to take it before my bday or should it the day after my bday (as those are my only options for scheduling)?

Yep.  I felt pretty good after averaging a 74 on my first attempt of the first 419 Gleim practice questions (Study Units 1, 2, & 3).

Little did I know the trouble that lie ahead in Study Units 4 through 9 – Internal Controls.  I’m pretty confused and overwhelmed right now.  I think it’s because I no longer have CPA excel, but continue to use their 2009 textbook.  I heard CPAexcel was supposed to be great for AUD… so far I have to disagree.  I actually prefer the Gleim book to CPAexcel’s funky organization.  Gleim pretty much covers everything while CPAexcel leaves out alot
